COVID-19 Notes

This year started with rumors of a deadly infectious disease in China and now we are in fear and foreboding about what the future may hold. Some have thoughts about an impending apocalypse while some are luckily sane and keeping positive vibes up.

I can say COVID-19 does not deserve the attention given to it by WHO and the disruption it caused to society. But, these authorities surely have their reasons and there is nothing we common folks can do much. For my part, being an advocate of health safety and preparedness will share my thoughts and facts gathered regarding this virus.

COVID-19 is a newly identified virus making its round around the globe, getting much attention. But there are reports that it is not new, as it is already 18 months old last February 2020. Also, like every other virus, it is expected to make another round in the next cold seasons. It is expected that once a virus has infected 60% of the population, that population is now immune and the spread of the disease will no longer be a major threat. This “herd immunity” can be attained without the help of vaccines, but, pharmaceutical industry would love to take the credit of “herd immunity”. Selling vaccines is like selling fake medicines. It is useless but provides a sense of security.

The basic course of action at this time is not only prevention but the safety of the vulnerable among us, as is the advice from Israel Sec. of Defense in the following video. He advised giving the very young and elderly space, isolation/quarantine, from the healthy strong young adults who can be infected but without symptoms and thereby spread the virus. The vulnerable members of society should be distanced from the strong to avoid infection.

Another point to consider in preventing illness from COVID-19 is a phenomenon called “viral interference”. Viral interference is the condition wherein an individual who has taken flu shots or vaccination is rendered more susceptible to COVID-19.

https://twitter.com/steemir/status/1241518854125301766?s=20

This tweet is saying that if you had flu shots or vaccinations, you could be more susceptible to other viral respiratory infections. And if you take anti-inflammatory drugs, your illness will get worse.

Here is a screenshot of the NCIB study:

Viral interference

The conclusion is: ” Vaccine derived virus interference was significantly associated with coronavirus and human metapneumovirus;”

This could explain why doctors and health workers are highly susceptible to infection of COVID-19, a coronavirus. It is because health workers often take if not mandated to take flu vaccinations. Also, travelers are susceptible because they are also required to take vaccinations before travel.

Another thing to consider is this initial report on COIVD-19 from the China outbreak. It was initially thought that COVID-19 only infects Chinese people. They found that the virus only infects people with Chinese DNA. So it was understandable why China was swift in isolating infected individual and their requirement for health workers to wear PPE gear. Below is the link with the following conclusion:

“Notable is that while SARS spread to about 40 countries, the infections in most countries were few and deaths almost zero, and it was exclusively (or almost exclusively) Chinese who were infected, those in Hong Kong most seriously, with Mainland China suffering little by comparison.

This appears to be precisely the case with this new virus, in that most of the infected persons (sofar) are Chinese. News reports speak of infections appearing in Thailand or the US, but those (at least to date of writing) were all Chinese who had been to Wuhan. There have been no cases so far of infected Caucasians.

As with SARS, this new virus appears to be tightly-focused to Chinese. At this stage,it is too early to draw specific conclusions.”

The Chinese can be forgiven for their paranoid reaction to COVID-19 especially that earlier,

“The Chinese were furious to learn that Americans were collecting Chinese DNA. The government intervened and prohibited the further export of any of the data. The conclusion at the time was that the ‘research’ had been commissioned by the US military with the DNA samples destined for race-specific bio-weapons research.”

What was very alarming to me is the statement that

“Recent disease outbreaks that would seem to possibly qualify as potential bio-warfare agents are AIDS, SARS, MERS, Bird Flu, Swine Flu, Hantavirus, Lyme Disease, West Nile Virus, Ebola, Polio (Syria), Foot and Mouth Disease, the Gulf War Syndrome and ZIKA. And in fact thousands of prominent scientists, physicians, virologists and epidemiologists on many continents have concurred that all these viruses were lab-created and their release deliberate. ”

How sad that only greedy humans cause the worst misery to their own kind.

Considering all this information, to recap, take extra precaution to safety:

  1.  In the care of the vulnerable, the very young and elderly, who has weaker immune systems.
  2. If you had had vaccinations
  3. If you are of Chinese lineage

You may say that Italy is not Chinese but they have high infection rates. It is possible that the virus that causes respiratory infections is not COVID-19 but the previous SARS or MERS COV viruses. Remember, that the symptoms of COVID-19 is similar to other respiratory infections. Also, unlike South Korea who has isolated the COVID-19 virus and checks for that specific virus, it is possible that the test kits used in Italy for COVID-19 infection counts all coronaviruses, be it COVID-19, SARS, MERS COV and others of its kind.

But what to do if you have symptoms?

COVID-19 is a virus. Here are the points to remember:

  1. High temperature kills viruses. You can induce a higher body temperature by taking a sauna bath, drinking hot tea or lemon, and the use of humidifiers. Sunbathing is also wonderful but do it before 9 am and after 4 pm, when the sun is not too directly above us and may cause skin cancer.
  2. Virus loves oily surface, so keep clean. Plain soap and water will do the trick. Wash more often and every after handling cash and coins. Wash cash and coins if you can. Clean surfaces that are often handled, like doorknobs, remote controls, cellphone, phones, refrigerator doors, and the likes. Do not take inside the house shoes from outdoors. Remove coverings at the doorway and hang near the door. Place items used outdoors under the sun if possible.
  3. Take Vitamin C at least  1000mg daily. Vitamin C destroys the virus membrane, making it easier for the immune system to eliminate. If with symptoms, take as much as 1000mg every hour.
  4. Hydration. Drink up to 3 liters of water. Warm and with lemon juice or tea is great. No sugar please as sugar induces cell inflammation.
  5. Do not eat to the full. Avoid sweets and starchy food that promote cellular inflammation. Eat green leafy vegetables and fruits.
  6. Sleep well and take some rest.
  7. Keep on exercising. Sweats can carry the virus out of your body. Also, exercising can increase your body temperature, killing the virus.

2017 Health Products

It’s that time of the year, Christmas time!
Sorry to say I did miss writing blogs this year. So before the year ends, let me write one.

Every year, there seems to be new health products coming out. I was able to try some not so new health products. Let me review them.

One product was Black Seed Oil. This has been in the market for some time, I guess, but in the Philippines, I saw it only in the market this year. The item was imported from India, sold at Php 700.00 per bottle, more by resellers. I let my mother take some, so did my sister and myself. We tried about three bottles, the last bottle was not fully consumed. It comes in a 500mg capsule.

I can feel the after taste of the oil, it was not bad. As for it’s effect, I am not so sure. We are taking a lot of supplements: Provimin Spirulina, generic Vit C, Masa Squalene, GNLD products (Carotenoids, Formula V, Vita Squares, Acidophilus, Cal Mag, alternatively) and I cannot say for sure that Black Seed Oil made a difference.

The other product we tried was Hemp Oil in capsule form. I read this product can help with mental, brain, mood related issues. I wanted to see if this could improve my sister’s mood. She has epilepsy and has been taking medication since she was seven years old. She has mood swings and escalates emotionally fast. Also, emotionally she seems stuck. She cannot develop new perceptions/understanding and forgets recent events, especially after seizures.

I think the Hemp Oil helped. She would listen to my suggestions and would remember them. She is also open to my suggestions and apply them. So I am buying another bottle.

I aslo have mother take some Hemp Oil and at least her mind has not deterioted. She can still remember us at 84 years old. Her appetite is poor though.  I remembered digestive enzymes could help in digestion and maybe she needed some enzymes since enzymes production is reduced in the elderly. I gave her fruit enzymes and it did help.

Naturally, I also took some Hemp Oil. I am not sure if it’s the hemp oil but I am sleepy all day. But I can remember new lessons better so I’ll continue taking it, too.

About Masa Squalene, I noticed that if I lessen my mother’s intake, her blood pressure would go up. Same with me. So we still take Masa Squalene, part of our essential food supplements.

What are your essentials food supplements?

Merry Christmas to you all! May the new year bring us better memories. 🙂

Traditional and Home Remedies

Traditional therapies are making a resurgence worldwide. Well, maybe in developed countries we can say that, because in some areas in the world where modern medicine never took root, traditional medicine has always been the means of treatment for diseases.

Then, modern medicine has been accused of being greedy and its doctors psychopaths. But modern medicine did made major contributions to understanding diseases and the human body. Also, it validated the value of some traditional medicine. On the other hand, traditional medicine, too, has some quack practices.

Where does that leave the common layman? If you are reading this, most likely you live in a modern society with personal freedom not enjoyed but any human in any previous society. Travel and communication technology burst the floodgates of wonder into the world. Forces of good and evil are fighting it out for supremacy. And so on and so on.

If you are indeed enjoying the freedom bestowed upon you by the sacrifices of brave and visionaries in the past, you must have the responsibility of making the personal decision on how to maintain your health. Perhaps you do not feel any need for care and caution. Live per diem is your motto. Go on in peace, love. But if you do feel the need to dive into the ocean of information and find yourself some good habits to carry with you to better and keep yourself healthy, this blog will journey with you.

Masa Squalene as Preventive Supplement

2bmasaOur modern time has seen great advances and people never has the privileges this generation enjoys. Well organized governments and higher education available to most has made peace and cooperation among nations stable, thus promoting international travel and business prosperous. It is a waste to miss out on all this with sickness and disease. Indeed, in all the pleasures available today, it just made it more clear that the most valuable possession is health.

Taking care of our body is a prime responsibility, before anything else, for we cannot do our duties to others if we are ill. Worse, we might become a burden to others. Conscientious people therefore do all they can to stay healthy well into their golden years and hope to enjoy it still. And, truth be told, so fortunate people are blessed to be able to do so.

Here are several inspiring people who stayed healthy and beautiful well into their 70s and further:

90 Year old nurse and still going!

70 year old woman looking like 30s!

Eating fresh fruits and vegetables should be part of our daily routine. There are enzymes and phytonutrients in fresh fruits and vegetables that keep our cells, organs and by in tip top function. Another natural biologically present substance that would do wonders to our health when supplemented is squalene. Squalene is found in our eyes, skin, used in cholesterol synthesis and other important body processes. An excellent supplement for squalene is Masa Squalene. It helps in vertigo discomfort, normalizing cholesterol levels, improving concentration, recovery from hang-over, eyesight health, among a host of benefits. There are testimonies of cancer patients recovering after supplementing with Masa Squalene. This could be because Masa Squalene also has anti fungus and protozoan properties. Fungus and protozoan infections are very hard to diagnose but internal organ infections have very similar symptoms as liver cancer and colon cancer. Thereby, in cases of  fungus and protozoan infecting the liver and colon but diagnosed as cancer, when patients take Masa Squalene, they begin to feel better and recover.

A wise preventive measure against fungus and protozoan infection, as well as overall health, would be Masa Squalene supplementation.

Masa Squalene Source and  Benefits Video

…what exactly is squalene? It’s a naturally occurring organic compound that’s made in the livers of animals (including humans) and in plants. It circulates in our bloodstream.  The squalene added to food, cosmetics, and health supplements is generally derived from shark liver oil. What’s more, the American Cancer Society reports that recent studies have found the substance Squalene decreased the spread of cancerous lung tumors in laboratory animals.

In the human body, squalene is produced during cholesterol synthesis. It is part of human body oils, and maintains skin elasticity, skin moisture, protects against UV radiation, regenerates aging skin and repairs damaged skin. It is but therefore natural that squalene is mostly concentrated in the skin.

Squalene is essential in the human body that we will die without it.

Squalene is also utilized in the body as an antioxidant. in fact, only 10% of squalene is used in cholesterol systhesis. 90% of squalene is utilized as anti-oxidant or stored.

On the skin, squalene exerts protective function against ultraviolet damage. This same protective function of squalene is also exhibited in the eyes. Squalene appears to protect the eyes against harmful effects of ultraviolet damage, such as cataracts.

A few testimonial (more further down):

Cancer of the liver

“I failed to take good care of myself, while drinking heavily for a long time. Last May 16, I was diagnosed as suffering from cancer of the liver. I was terrified. I had to take a lot of medicine prescribed for me but never got well. I’m thankful that a kind-hearted man, a local pastor, gave me MASA Squalene. I tried it and I got well.” – Tito Empenado, Zone Pechay II, Paknaan, Mandaue City, Philippines

MASA Squalene stops leukemia

“My daughter Mitchelle was always dizzy, pale and anemic. If not treated soon, she would develop leukemia, according to our family doctor. Her nose used to bleed and I got more scared when blood showed in her stool. However, each time my husband bought MASA Squalene for his personal use, I would give Mitchelle some. It was a miracle because my daughter got well after a few months.”– Aniceta Coyonan, Tabuyao, Apalit, Pampanga, Philippines

—————–

“Squalene as an Anti-Cancer Agent

A significant body of evidence indicates that reasonable doses of supplemental squalene prevents the chemical initiation of some kinds of cancers, and promotes the regression of some kinds of preexisting tumors.

One animal study found that a 1% squalene diet reduced a certain type of colon cancer foci by 46%. Another study found that squalene as 2% of the diet made animals resistant to the toxic effects of whole-body gamma radiation.1″

Squalene has also been clinically proven to prevent tumor and cancer formation from chemical inducement in animals.

A very potent compound in squalene is the alkyglycerols- also found in human bone marrow and breast milk. It is believed to help the regeneration of the immune system. This is most beneficial to patients of leukemia, other auto immune diseases and people whose immune system has been compromised. Alkyglycerols functions in the body has been studied for decades and it is thought to be utilized for red and white blood cells production.

Also among the enormous health benefits of squalene are relief from arthritis, pain and aches(pain management), alleviation of symptoms of diabetes, heart ailments, hypertension, angina, liver diseases, cancer (colon, lung, liver), food poisoning, migraine, vertigo, ear infection, kidney diseases, fever, tuberculosis, viral infection, fungal infection, and bacterial infection.

Squalene has been in human consumption for centuries, as documented in China and Japan. As a food supplement in modern living, squalene comes in pure liquid and capsules form and has been in the market for decades. Squalene is also ubiquitous in cosmetic products.

Masa Squalene is a non-fishy tasting, 99% purified squalene from Philippines deep-sea shark liver oil. It is available in 500mg 100 capsules bottles (no aluminum contamination) for food supplementation. It has FDA registration and Halal certification. Masa Squalene has been in the world market for more than a decade and an immense collection of testimonials has been compiled to attest to its efficacy and health benefits. The Value of Squalene according to:

Squalane for cosmetic applications

has developed significantly over the last
40 years.
For much of this period, shark liver oil
has represented the only industrial scale
source of Squalene. The intensive fishing
of these sharks has progressively decreased
significantly their population
and in consequence many of the species
concerned are approaching extinction.
Effectively shark liver oil (as a raw material

Squalane) cannot be considered as a renewable
resource.
In the interest of protecting bio-diversity,
raw materials of animal origin must
be replaced by alternative sources that
respect our environment.
by a Japanese chemist Mitsumaru Tsujimoto in 1906 as a major component of
the liver oil of certain varieties of deepsea sharks.
The structure of Squalene was elucidated by Paul Karrer in 1936.
Squalene is a highly unsaturated hydrocarbon from triterpenoid family, consisting of 6 isolated double bonds.
It is a low viscosity oil. When purified, it
is very pale yellow to colourless with almost no odour.
In the early 1950’s, it was shown that
Squalene is present at a significant level
in the human sebum.
This provides an important relation between Squalene and the hydrolipic balance of the skin.
Being a natural constituent of human skin
lipids, Squalene plays a crucial role in the
physiology of the skin. It assists in hydration, repair of damaged skin and helps to
rejuvenate ageing skin.
Squalene is reported to have a significant role in protection against environmental factors, such as UV radiation, etc.
(2).
Squalene is also used as an efficient vector for active molecules in vaccines (3)
and occurs in nature in three main areas:
• Human sebum
• Shark liver oil
• Plant origins
Human sebum
Squalene occurs naturally in the sebum
at levels of 8 – 25%, depending on age,
sex, environment factors, etc. Squalene
is naturally produced during cholesterol
synthesis. Its major concentration is in
the skin as a part of the oils secreted by
sebaceous glands, helping to provide a
protective barrier to the skin surface.
It is known that the presence of Squalene in the sebum decreases with age (4).
Shark liver oil
Squalene is present at high proportions
(35 – 80%) in the liver oil of certain species
of deep sea sharks.
These sharks are relatively small in size
(approx. 1 m) and are perfectly adapted
to their habitat – depth of more than
1000 m.
Interest in Squalene and more particularly Squalane for cosmetic applications
has developed significantly over the last
40 years.
For much of this period, shark liver oil
has represented the only industrial scale
source of Squalene. The intensive fishing
of these sharks has progressively decreased significantly their population
and in consequence many of the species

Effectively shark liver oil (as a raw material for the production of Squalene and
Squalane) cannot be considered as a renewable resource.
In the interest of protecting bio-diversity, raw materials of animal origin must
be replaced by alternative sources that

Plant origins
Squalene is widely present as a component of the unsaponifiable fraction of
vegetable oils.
In general, the very low level of Squalene
in vegetable oils does not represent a viable industrial source.
In the case of olive oil (Olea europa), high
tonnages are physically refined. During
this process the unsaponifiable fraction
is concentrated in the refining condensate. This provides the bases of an industrial source of olive Squalene.
The industrial production of Squalene
from olive oil is considerably more complex than the production from shark liver oil. This has a significant impact on the
costs of olive Squalene and Squalane as
compared to those obtained from shark
liver oil.
Other origins
Jasmine (Jasminum Grandiflorum) is
widely used in perfume compositions
(concretes and absolutes). The Squalene
content is in the range 2.5 to 6%, Squalene oxide is also present in the range 5
to 12%. Jasmine is not used as a source
of Squalene due to its very high cost (5).
Amaranth (Amaranthus sp) also contain
appreciable quantities of Squalene (6).
Depending on the variety, the oil obtained from the seeds can contain up to
8% Squalene. A lipid extract of the leaves
has an average Squalene concentration
of 0.26% which is clearly insufficient for
industrial production. The same authors
report the optimisation of the extraction
by supercritical fluid which allows a fraction containing 15% Squalene to be obtained (7)
an industrial scale by hydrogenation of the naturally occurring molecule, Squalene.
Squalene is obtained from 2 distinct sources – shark liver oil and the unsaponifiable fraction of olive oil.
Both Squalene and Squalane from the 2 sources are identical chemically
but differ in purity and cost, due to the respective production processes.
The objective of this research is to provide a fully valid method for the determination of the origin of both Squalene and Squalane.
To achieve this objective, isotope ratio mass spectrometry was used. Stable
isotopes
13
C/
12
C abundances were determined using an elemental analyser
(EA) linked online to an isotope ratio mass spectrometer (IMRS).
Different mixed samples of both origins of Squalene and Squalane were prepared from 0 to 100% ratio and the isotopic determination was carried out.
Results show that, for both Squalene and Squalane, there are significant
differences in δ
13
C values between shark origin (-19.4‰) and olive origin
(-28.3‰). Thus no isotopic fractionation occurs during the reaction transforming Squalene into Squalane.
It is concluded that analysis by δ
13
C values provides a valid quantitative
method to differentiate between origins of Squalene and Squalane.

The Theory of Dr. Hideo Noguchi

Dr. Hideo Noguchi said “the cause of almost all kind of diseases is due to oxygen deficiency.” And Squalene has the special capacity of increasing the oxygen supply to different cells of the human body.
Some scholars in France advocate the theory that “pain” is a signal to the brain that the part, which is aching, suffers from the shortage of oxygen. Since the shortage of oxygen in the cells causes diseases like cancer, it is true that the oxygen supplied by SQUALENE in our body affects our health to a great extent. What is SQUALENE?
It is important to recognize that SQUALENE is the main component of oil contained in the deep-sea shark’s liver. Few people know that the molecular structure of SQUALENE consists of carbon and hydrogen, and that is a liquid similar to oil as it has an extremely low freezing point. Likewise, very few know that the liver of deep-sea shark is rich with it unlike other fish liver oil, which hardly contains it. So we cannot say that it is any ordinary liver oil. There are two classes of sharks. The Surface sharks like the great White Shark, are big in size, have air bladder and give birth to a live pup. They cannot survive from 500 to 1000 meters under the sea, as they will drown because of lack of oxygen. The deep-sea shark, like the dogfish and nurse shark, are small in size, they lay eggs and don’t give birth to a live pup. As compared to surface shark, deep-sea sharks are known to survive in the depths ranging from 500 to 1000 meters where there is very little or no oxygen. The secret of their survival is the huge liver, 90% of its internal organ is liver occupying almost 25% of its overall bodyweight. The oil contents in the liver of these sharks is 80% Squalene. The liver oil of this special kind of shark contains highly unsaturated hydrocarbons. Deep-Sea sharks have a marvelous capacity to live and survive in a very peculiar environment because of their huge liver. It is believed that their powerful energy is naturally produced within the shark’s body in order to adapt itself to its mysterious habitat. Sunlight and oxygen under 500 to 1000 meters deep is almost nil. The Deep-Sea shark has no air bladder and so it obtains a large amount of oxygen by dissolving it in the liver. It possesses a great ability to live by which it remains alive for quite sometime when fished out of the sea. Of the 350 different shark families four of these rare shark like the dogfish and the nurse shark are found in the world’s deepest sea, the Philippine Deep. Ever since the discovery of Squalene by Dr. M. Tsujimoto in 1906 and fixing of its chemical formula by Professor Calour, a NOBEL PRIZEWINNER at Zurich University in Switzerland in 1931, meticulous researches on the importance of Squalene have progressed rapidly. As a consequence, it was found that Squalene with the living body stimulates metabolism by supplying oxygen to the tissues and that exhibits a great force in the revival of body tissues.
Dr. Wattenburg of Minnesota University, U.S.A., published that if the oxygen-starved condition is avoided, cancer can be restrained. Squalene treats the body by providing oxygen to the cells and removing toxins from the body.
Thus, Masa Squalene comes in as the exact product needed because of its special capacity to increase the oxygen supply to the cells and help strengthen the reviving power of the cells and skin granulation. It exerts a great force on the revival of tissues within the body. It stimulates metabolism by supplying oxygen to the tissues. CITING SCIENTIFIC DATA, MASA SQUALENE HAS THE SPECIAL POWER TO REVITALIZE WEAKENED BODY CELLS AND STIMULATES METABOLISM BY SUPPLYING OXYGEN TO THE TISSUES.
The key to being healthy is the activation of cells. The human body is composed of about six (6) billion cells. Each of these cells is the source of our health. Diseases result from fatigue and the aging of cells. MASA SQUALENE is one substance that activates cells.
What do we call Masa Squalene if it is not a food or medicine? Masa Squalene is Masa Squalene. It is more than a health food. It is a liquid, which fascinates because it is good for the health.
MASA SQUALENE DOES NOT TREAT THE DISEASES BUT RATHER CATALYZES EACH CELL IN THE BODY TO PROMOTE GOOD HEALTH AND IN THE PROCESS, CURES THE DISEASES.
A dying billionaire once said, “Give me health and I will give you all my wealth.” Shortly after this offer, the billionaire died. Indeed, you can’t buy good health at any price. These poor cells in your body need to be properly nourished with Masa Squalene. Cells starving for oxygen will die and the result: Body weakness, fatigue, wrinkles and premature aging, poor memory and susceptibility to life threatening diseases like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc. Dr. Nobuhito of the Oita Medical College announced at a meeting of the Japan Cancer Society that taking anti-cancer medicine together with Squalene simultaneously is by far more effective than when using anti-cancer medicine only. The effectiveness of MASA SQUALENE can be seen in various diseases. Most diseases are cured if blood is cleaned up and cells are activated a function done by MASA SQUALENE. It also makes the body healthy and strong to resist diseases. Shark Liver Oil, Squalene, shark liver oil product, shark liver oil, squalene, Detox Products, Detox Tablets, Detox Capsules, Detox Pills, and Detox Drink at Low Discount Prices. Guaranteed to Work.
By removing cholesterol in the inner walls of the blood vessels and by making the vessel cells elastic, blood pressure is normalized and serious blood damage is avoided. Brain hemorrhage (or brain apoplex) and bursting of varix can be, likewise, checked. This is done through the purification of blood and the activiation of cells. It may come as a surprise to know that sharks and men have many things in common. By probing into the function of MASA SQUALENE, this can be understood. If we explain the function of MASA SQUALENE in two words, it would be “OXYGEN SUPPLY.”

Squalene And Its Potential Clinical Uses

Gregory S. Kelly, N.D.

Clinical Applications

Squalene and Cholesterol Metabolism: Although oral administration of squalene appears to consistently decrease hepatic and serum levels of plant sterols,9 its impact on cholesterol metabolism in humans is less clear. Available evidence suggests a substantial amount of dietary squalene is absorbed and converted to cholesterol in humans; however, this increase in synthesis is not associated with consistent increases of serum cholesterol levels, possibly as a result of a concomitant increase in fecal elimination.4 Dietary supplementation with one gram of squalene daily for nine weeks was reported to cause increases in serum total, VLDL-, IDL-, and LDL-cholesterol concentrations by 12, 34, 28, and 12 percent, respectively. However, a subsequent six-week period on a lower dose of squalene (0.5 g/day) normalized serum sterols. 5 Strandberg et al supplemented humans with squalene (900 mg/day for 7-30days). While serum squalene levels were increased 17-fold, no significant changes were reported in serum triglyceride and cholesterol contents. Squalene feeding produced a significant increase in fecal excretion of cholesterol, its nonpolar derivatives, and bile acids, suggesting that, although cholesterol synthesis probably increased by as much as 50 percent, fecal elimination was also upregulated, resulting in no net effect on serum cholesterol concentrations. 4 Replacement of dietary triglyceride by squalene is reported to result in up to a 50-percent reduction in the absorption of cholesterol in rats. 10 However, two human reports indicate no change in cholesterol absorption while supplementing the diet with squalene, suggesting the elimination of triglycerides, not the addition of squalene, was responsible for the decline in cholesterol absorption. Gregory S. Kelly, N.D.

Of particular interest is a study indicating squalene, added into a protocol with low-dose pravastatin, enhanced the efficacy of pravastatin as a hyperlipidemic drug, suggesting squalene might be a prudent dietary addition for individuals on similar cholesterollowering drugs. Chan et al conducted this double-blind, placebo-controlled study to compare pravastatin (10 mg) and squalene (860 mg), either alone or in combination for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia. One hundred and two patients received either treatment or placebo for 20 weeks. Although pravastatin was more effective than squalene in reducing total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and triglycerides and in increasing levels of highdensity lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, the combination of both pravastatin and squalene was even more efficacious in reducing total and LDL cholesterol and increasing HDL cholesterol.11

Squalene as a Skin and Eye Antioxidant: Squalene is not very susceptible to peroxidation and appears to function in the skin as a quencher of singlet oxygen, protecting human skin surface from lipid peroxidation due to exposure to ultraviolet light and other sources of oxidative damage. 12 In Vitro experimental evidence indicates squalene is a highly effective oxygenscavenging agent. 13 Subsequent to oxidative stress, such as sunlight exposure, squalene functions as an efficient quencher of singlet oxygen and prevents the corresponding lipid peroxidation in human skin surface. Kohno et al found the rate constant of quenching of singlet oxygen by squalene to be much larger than those of other lipids in human skin surface, and to be comparable to 3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxytoluene (BHT). They also reported squalene is not particularly susceptible to peroxidation and is stable against attacks by peroxide radicals, causing them to suggest “the chain reaction of lipid peroxidation is unlikely to be propagated with adequate levels of squalene present in human skin surface.” 12 In animal models, squalene also appears to play an important role in the health of the retina, with particular regard to rod photoreceptor cells and the assembly of rod outer segment (ROS) disk membranes. Both in vitro and in vivo, the majority of newly synthesized squalene in the retina is transported to the ROS, where it turns over in parallel with the disk membranes.

How is MASA Squalene manufactured?
It is the only squalene that has been processed and manufactured the natural way. No chemical solvents, preservatives, additives, glycerine and acetone, nor herbal and synthetic ingredients are used. Other squalene brands are processed through steaming, which actually destroys considerable amounts of vital nutrients, making them less potent. Heat, as in steaming, destroys Vitamins A, D and E in the squalene.

State-of-the-art technology was employed to meet world-class standards in the production of MASA Squalene.

Shark Liver Oil, (especially the deepsea shark liver oil from the Philippines), is the elite or superset of all fish oils. It contains the following all-natural and active ingredients in varying proportions, also found in our MASA Squalene capsules, and these are good for the human body:

1. Squalene
It actively supplies oxygen to the human cells. The oxygen helps create a more efficient metabolism, keeping the cells healthy and alive. Research also shows that Squalene has a cleaning effect to flush foreign substances out of the human body, thereby minimizing the damage to our natural defense systems. Also, Squalene is a great stamina builder which builds up strong resistance to colds and flu and other infections. It also enhances quicker recovery from fatigue and stress.

(Squalene also called Squalamine – Dr. Michael Zasloff, a molecular biologist who headed Magainin Pharmaceuticals, discovered Squalamine from the dogfish shark. He says that it is more powerful than ampicillin, because it kills bacteria, protozoans and fungi, including candida, a fungus that plagues immunity-suppressed people, such as those with AIDS. Dr. Allen Sills of John Hopkins University says that brain tumor treated with Squalene showed no growth but actually shrunk, and it was able to prevent its metastasis.)

2. Vitamin A (Retinol)
It has a vital role in maintaining healthy mucous membranes and skeletal tissues in humans. It is essential to the visual process, for dental development, and for growth and reproduction. It influences cell division, RNA synthesis, protein glycosylation, lysomal membrane stability, and prostaglandin biosynthesis. It is also considered a strong anti-cancer agent, based on the theory that retinols reverse the loss of cellular differentiation.

3. Vitamin E
It basically maintains healthy red blood cells, tissues and skeletal muscles. Vitamin E also prevents the oxidation of squalene and keeps it from going rancid. Without Vitamin E, the shark liver makes squalene oxidize easily and makes it lose its beneficial health properties.

4. Iodine
A nonmetallic univalent and polyvalent element belonging to the halogens and is chiefly used in medicine for antisepsis and in the treatment of cretinism and goiter.

5. Alkoxyglycerols (AKGS)
Shark liver oil contains the highest known concentration of alkyl esters of glycerols in nature. Dr. Astrid Brohult, a Swedish medical doctor and researcher, discovered that AKG normalizes blood cell count, strengthens the immune system and protects the body from viral, bacterial and fungal infections. Shark liver oil’s AKG hastens the production of red and white blood cells, helps blood clotting, and halts the progress of degenerative diseases like arthritis, osteoporosis, allergies and asthma. It also prevents and controls cancers.

6. Omega-3 Fatty Acids
A long-term study on the effects of fish oil led by Dr. Dan Kromhout of the University of Leiden’s Institute of Social Medicine in the Netherlands showed that it reduces heart-disease rate and protects the heart against damage from heart attack. Dr. Robert Wissler of the University of Chicago, found that fish oil reduces plaque formation in rhesus monkeys, which have arteries and a biochemistry very similar to humans. Other researchers showed that other blood parameters associated with high blood pressure were greatly reduced.
